ANZAC Day 2019
May 11, 2019 by Robyn
At the service concluding the march, Johnstone Park
Cantore and Raise the Bar choirs were honoured to once again contribute to the ANZAC day commemorations in Geelong, first at the wreath laying service at the Geelong RSL and then at Johnstone park.
The choir provided a moving background to the wreath laying at the Geelong RSL sub-branch with songs including:
- Spirit of the ANZACS
- A medley of Vera Lynn’s wartime hits “White Cliffs of Dover” and “We’ll Meet Again”
- Waltzing Matilda
- Amazing Grace
and concluding with a beautiful set of instrumental hymns played by Kym Dillon, our brilliant accompanist. The choir then led the community in the singing of the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems.
At the Johnstone Park service, the choir performed “Spirit of the ANZACs” and the Vera Lynn medley, and sang along with Shandelle Cook and fellow musicians to the Australian National Anthem.
It was a VERY long day for Denise and Kym, who were up at 3am to prepare for the dawn service, but a great privilege to honour our servicemen and women for their contribution to our country.
