Geelong Youth Choir proudly announces the re-launch of its innovative “Let’s Make Music!” program designed specifically for preschool-aged children. The program, set to begin October 7th, aims to foster creativity, cognitive development, and a lifelong love of music in young learners.
Developed by experienced early childhood educators and professional music teachers, the Let’s Make Music! program integrates music theory, movement, and play in a fun, engaging format. Children will explore rhythm, melody, singing and dancing through interactive activities that enhance their ability to express themselves, in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
“Music is a universal language that has a profound impact on early childhood development,” says Samantha Robinson, Lead Music Educator at Let’s Make Music! “Our program is designed not only to introduce children to the joys of music but also to enhance their sense of belonging and connection. Humans are musical beings, and through music we can learn to listen to each other in a meaningful way.”
Adult carers of the children also participate in the class, learning a repertoire of songs and dances that they can share with the children outside of the class. “It’s lovely to watch families learning music together, and I’m hoping that the adult carers will feel happy to share some of their own musical traditions within the class”, said Ms Robinson.
Key features of the Let’s Make Music! Preschool Music Program include:
- Interactive Music Sessions: Hands-on activities that encourage active participation and self-expression.
- Carer Involvement: Adult carers join the children in the class, whether they are parents, grandparents or other carers.
- Expert Instructors: Highly qualified educators with extensive experience in early childhood music education.
- Age based groups: Classes are available for 1-2 year olds and 3-4 year olds, allowing focusedand appropriate activities for each developmental level.
The program will be offered on Mondays at the community centre at Belmont Uniting Church on Thomson Street, with limited places available in 2024. Enrolment is now open, and families are encouraged to visit the website for more information and to register their interest.
“We believe music should be part of every child’s life, and we’re excited to provide a space where families can explore music together, and build a community that values the joy of music” adds Phillipa McQuinn Director of Music for Geelong Youth Choir.
